Caught in the Act

I peeked in to check on Milo who was supposed to be down for a nap this after noon and there he was standing in his crib playing with his mobile! It was the first time he ever made it to standing! So I quietly shut the door and went and got the camera. I guess the mobile needs to come down now. I am so excited and proud. What a good boy!

Mommy's Little Shadow

Now that Milo has figured out he can get to where I am he has taken to following me around the house. If I go to the bathroom, he's there. If I go to the kitchen, he's there. If I am folding laundry, he's there. Whatever it is that I am doing he wants to observe and I think it's completely adorable. He doesn't necessarily need me to be playing with him all the time but he definitely likes having me close by. If I am sitting on the couch he will come over and sit on the floor next to me and play. If we are in the computer room he will whine if I am in the chair and not on the floor with him. He will be over playing happily by himself and I will try to sneak up into the chair but as soon as he sees me he starts whining again. If I don't' immediately acquiesce to his request that I be on the floor then the whining turns into wailing. Even though it can get trying when he whines it melts my heart to see him come around the corner to join me in the laundry room or when I look back and he's trying his best to catch up with me down the hall. I love that little guy with ever fiber of my being.

Mobility...Why Did I Want This?

Now that Milo is a baby on the move he is irrepressible. His poor little knees are all red from crawling but it doesn't seem to bother him. As he was headed for the dog's food and water yesterday I began to ask myself "why did I want him to get mobile again?" Then I had to remind myself that he was very irritated that he couldn't get to the things he wanted and was whining all the time. I had to remember all the time I chased down toys he threw then wanted back and couldn't get them himself. I also realized that I had to finish the baby proofing in the house. So I spent the afternoon with my head stuck up under the cabinets in the kitchen screwing in baby proof cabinet locks and crawling around the floor looking for outlets I missed putting plugs in.

It's amazing to me how quickly he can get into things even though he has only been crawling for about a week. He was so wobbly and tentative at first but it didn't take him long to master it. I also realized that I am going to have to be more vigilant about keeping everything picked up. He ate his first piece of paper the other day. He got to a piece of a straw wrapper before I could stop him and shoved it in his mouth. I tried to get it out but the darn thing disintegrated so fast I only got little pieces out and he ate the rest. The little monkey is into everything. There is nothing sacred in this house anymore.

41 Weeks

Milo is 41 weeks old now. He has officially been out of the uterus longer than he was in it (I went to 40 1/2 weeks). As with any marker of how fast time is passing it's bittersweet for me. He growing so fast it makes my head spin and part of me misses his tininess and part of me is so proud of all the things he has accomplished in just 41 short weeks. He's becomeing a regulare monkey. He crawls, sits himself up, pulls up on the furniture (just to him knees, not to standing yet but he's working on it) he is self feeding some, he grabs everything in sights and definitely makes his desires known to the world when he doesn't get what he wants. We are starting to see a little craftyness and problem solving too. When he can't get what he wants the way he is going about it he will change tactics after a few fuitle attempts and try it a different way. He's so smart it amazes me. I have no idea how I'm going to deal with a genius child as he grows up! :)

At his 9 month appointment he continued to be long and thin with a large head. I think it's so funny that none of the little newborn caps fit his big ol' noggin and it continues to be that way. he is making all of his "milostones" and the doc is very happy with how he is progressing.

4th of July

We didn't do much for the 4th this year. Chris was sweet enough to get up with the baby so I could sleep in so we didn't make it to the parade. The most concessions we made to the holiday were to dress Milo in a patriotic outfit and get sparklers for him to see. Milo and I went to lunch with his nanny and Chris stayed home to work on his masters degree (I will be so glad when that is over). We had a nice relaxing day though so I am pleased.

We sat Milo on a blanket in the grass to show him the sparklers and he really wanted to venture out beyond it but his hate of grass kept him stranded on his little blanket island.

Bailey went nuts snapping at the sparklers and Milo had a blast too. I am not sure if he enjoyed the sparklers more or watching Bailey try to attack them, either way he had fun. We were going to try to wait for dusk to light the sparklers but Milo was getting too tired so we just did it in the shade.

1st Balloon

We went to blockbuster on the 4th of July to rent movies and the lady there gave Milo his first balloon. He had a blast playing with the thing. We had to tie it to an umbrella becuase it kept floating away and upsetting him. It didn't last long though, the next day it was totally deflated but he had a lot of fun with it for one day at least. I am so glad he didn't pop it because he's scared of anything that make loud noises such as the vacuum cleaner, blender, food processor...

Here's a little video of him playing with his balloon.

Pics of my niece

My mother -in-law had me take some pics of my niece, Ashley, the other day. I had intended to take her to the arboretum but it ended up raining so we did them at Sheralyn's house. In the ones of her laying on the grass it was literally raining on us. Ashley insisted on makes all of her strange faces but despite all of that I think they turned cute.

First Non-Family Photo Shoot

My friend Brooke was sweet enough to let me practice taking pics of her 8 month old daughter the other day. I think they turned out so cute and it was so much fun and I had a blast getting to do girly stuff. Since Milo is my main subject it was a refreshing change of pace from blue.
