The Other C Family

Earlier in the week I got to take pics of another C family. Normally I am very prepared but Milo had absconded with my battery charger and I didn't discover it until about an hour before I was supposed to be there so I only had half a battery left with which to get the shots I needed. Thankfully they just wanted a few pics for Christmas cards so I got it done in about 15 mins. then my battery pooped out on me. The father was quite pleased it didn't take that long. LOL! I never did find the battery charger so I had to get a new one.

Crazy Photo Weekend

I got the chance to take pics of some friends of mine and some perfect strangers this weekend! I was a little nervous and there where are few obstacles to over come (it was VERY windy and dusty outside for the P family's shoot) but the pics turned out great so I am pleased.

No Surgery

Milo was supposed to have surgery yesterday to put tubes in his tears ducts but thank God we didn't have to put him through that! When we went to the doctor after the first surgery he told me to massage the tear duct like I did when he was little and see if we could get it to open up with out the tubes. So I did and His eye had been looking great for a few weeks so I took him in on Monday to see if he really did need the surgery or not and the doc said he would probably be fine with out it!!!!! So we canceled the surgery that was supposed to be yesterday and stayed home and played instead. I am so relived. I really didn't want to have to put him through the process of having tubes in his tear duct. YAY!

Nieces and Nephews

Here are a few of the photos I took of my nieces and nephews at the farm. You can see the whole set HERE. If you have never tried photographing 8 children ages 3 weeks to 11 years old all at the same time let me tell you it's quite a challenge. A few things that I learned are that you need to do it RIGHT after nap time. Build in LOTS of time and breaks because you'll need it (i.e. if the sun sets at 5:30 don't start at 4:30). Have the parents stand behind you and at the same level so that the kids are at least looking all in the same direction. The list goes on but you get the idea.

The individual photos turned out well but the group shots were really hard. In the end though I guess when photographing that many young children you just kind of have to let it be what it is. Get what you can and forget about the rest.

Family Pics

A photographer friend of mine recently took some pics of our family. She is trying to get her business off the ground so she did free session until the end of the year to build her portfolio and get her name out there. As you can imagine she filled up FAST. The day we did it just happened to be the first day it turned really cold and windy but she was so booked we couldn't reschedule it. We were supposed to go to the Arboretum but it was to cold so we did it at the university in a place were there was a court yard that was a little bit protected from the wind. Eventually we went inside too even though we weren't really supposed to. Milo also wasn't in a very cooperative mood so there aren't very many with the three of us. In spite of the weather I think we still got some great shots.

I love this shot. There aren't a lot of Milo and me because I am always the one behind the camera so when I get a good one of us together I treasure it.

Fun at the Farm

The other weekend Chris and I went down to my grandparents farm and got to spend some time with my family. Baby Boy stayed at home with his Nanny and Papa because We got invited to attend the Cowboys game. So on Sunday we drove up to big D and watch the Cowboys game from one of the luxury suites! I think the best thing was that we got to park right up against the stadium. LOL!

I now know why they don't show the half time on TV. It was boooooooring! The Cowboys really need to invest in a good marching band :)
Of course by that time I was getting antsy. I am not really a football fan any way and the excitement wore off after about half the game.

Weaned

Yesterday I got up to nurse Milo in the morning. We sat down in the rocker and he nursed for like 2 minutes then unlatched, looked up at me and said "juice?"! Since he had slowly been trying to wean for a while now I took that as a sign that he was ready to quit. I tried again a few time during the day but he wasn't having it so I decided that yesterday was going to be our last day of nursing.

I successfully nursed my son for 14 months and 5 days and I am very happy with that but I am also very sad that it's over. I always said that I would let Milo nurse until he wanted to quit but I didn't expect it quite so soon. I had in my mind (for some reason) that he would quit around two years old so it's been a little bit of a shock for me even though he has been gradually weaning for a few months now. It feels like another piece of his infancy has faded away and it makes me so sad because I have so enjoyed his babyness. Now the only really baby things left to go are the diapers and the paci. Infancy passed so fast. I was really unprepared for not only how much I would enjoy it but how fast it went by. I hope the rest of his childhood passes by more slowly but somehow I don't' think that it will. Time seems to just keep speeding up! It's bittersweet though, even though I am sad that his infancy is slipping away I love watching him grow and learn new things. How great it is watch a child grow up is another thing that has surprised me about parenthood. Now that I have a child I know why parents get all goofy about their kids. When the child is ours it makes all the difference in the world.
